John Coleman the founder of The Weather Channel was born in Alpine, Texas, the U.S. He first started his career in 1953 at WCIA in Champaign, Illinois. Over here, he did the early evening weather forecast and a local bandstand show. During this time, he was a student at the Univesity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

In 1957, he received his journalism degree. Later on, he became the weather anchor for WCIA’s sister station WMBD-TV in Peoria, Illinois. The founder of The Weather Channel was also a weather anchor for other channels. This includes KETV in Omaha, WISN-TV in Milwaukee, and WBBM-TV and WLS-TV in Chicago.

In 1972, Coleman created the first chroma-key weather map. In fact, he became the original weatherman on the brand-new ABC network morning program. Over here, he stayed seven years with David Hartman and Joan Lunden.

Later on, Frank Batten helped him to establish The Weather Channel. At that time, Frank was serving as TWC’s CEO and president. Afterward, Coleman became a weather anchor at WCBS-TV in New York and then at WMAQ-TV in Chicago. Later on, he left KUSI in 2014 with no on-air farewell.

The founder of The Weather Channel obtained Professional membership status in the American Meteorological Society. He was even named AMS Broadcast Meteorologist of the Year in 1983.
